Zach and Miri make a Porno

I went to see this despite my friend’s, Beth’s, less than stellar review. I wanted to see Eagle Eye again, but I was with someone who preferred to see this so fine. I gave it a shot cause I heard that Justin Long and Brandon Routh kiss, and that I’d get to see Jason Mewes’ dick.

On those points, the movie didn’t disappoint, and I think the Justin Long speech with Brandon Routh was my fave part of the whole movie. Too cute, and sexy. Oh, and Jason Mewes doesn’t disappoint either.

So the movie is about Zach (Seth Rogan) and Miri (Elizabeth Banks) friends only since grade school who around the time of their high school reunion are completely broke and about to be homeless and destitute. So to make a quick buck they decide to make a porno. For some reason they decide they need a cameraman, and other actors and so hilarity ensues with a full cast.

This is good, because it’s the full cast that actually plays this movie off. The biggest problem is really Seth Rogan and Elizabeth Banks. Common Kevin Smith dialogue sounds foreign on their mouths. It sounds like they are reading from a script and not their natural language. Elizabeth Banks is acting in her lines and in her falling in love, and we can all see right through her. It’s rather painful to watch. Seth Rogan doesn’t do any better.

But the rest of the cast delivers. That includes Smith veterans Jason Mewes and the guy who plays Randall in the Clerk movies. Craig Robinson (playing the producer) is pretty funny. And Traci Lords is aging gracefully. Surely, Kevin Smith you can’t make a campy movie about porn without Traci Lords. It’s just not right.

Overall, I agree with my friend Beth. This doesn’t feel like a Kevin Smith movie. I just think the casting was wrong on the stars and that’s a big problem. On a side note I would like to add that watching the movie with this friend was particularly eye opening. Not only was she very vocal about fake boobs, but it also seems she didn’t understand the mechanics of certain scenes.
